When an operator displays a list of queueing operations for a machine, FIS queries your ERP system for that list.

After the operator has selected the operation he wishes to start, FIS imports the manufacturing information for the part, and the works order details.

The advantage of this method of importing works orders is that the operator always sees the very latest information from your ERP system.  It is not possible to open a works order which has been deleted in your ERP system.

In order to use this scheme, FIS must be able to make live queries for works order information in your ERP database.

You cannot use this scheme if you intend to use the FIS Finite capacity planning module, because FIS needs to know about works orders before they are opened in order to plan them.

The alternative method is Live import works orders.

Features

Bill of materials per operation

The Rhombus Factory Information System stores the bill of materials required to make a part against the operation where the parts are required.  This is in contrast to other systems which store the bill of materials against the part itself.

As a consequence the FIS planning tools know exactly when each material for a works order is required.  They don't need to have all materials available to start a works order if they know that some components are not needed until a later operation, which may be a number of days away, particularly if the parts go to a sub-contractor during the manufacturing process.
