FIS reads manufacturing information and works orders from an external ERP system at regular intervals.

FIS reads all your released works orders and ensures that FIS has an up-to-date copy of each one.

Works orders which have been deleted from your ERP system are deleted from FIS automatically, provided that they have not been started in FIS.

You can choose how often to import works orders.  Some customers do this every hour, others once every shift.

This method of importing works orders allows various different methods of data transfer from your ERP system to FIS.

  • A file exported from the ERP system.  This might be a .csv file, or a .xml file.
  • A query from FIS into the ERP system database.

If you are going to use the FIS Finite capacity planning module, you must use this method of importing, because FIS needs to know about the works orders before they are started, so that it can plan them.

The alternative is to use Live import works orders.

Bill of materials per operation

The Rhombus Factory Information System stores the bill of materials required to make a part against the operation where the parts are required.  This is in contrast to other systems which store the bill of materials against the part itself.

As a consequence the FIS planning tools know exactly when each material for a works order is required.  They don't need to have all materials available to start a works order if they know that some components are not needed until a later operation, which may be a number of days away, particularly if the parts go to a sub-contractor during the manufacturing process.
